The death toll of those killed in the floods in Limpopo, has increased to 18, with the body of Lindelani Munyai, recovered on Sunday.

The 20-year old attempted to cross a swollen Mutale River, with his father.

He clung to a nearby branch, but currents were too strong for him.

His search was conducted by the Limpopo Provincial Police (SAPS) Search and Rescue, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Disaster Management teams. 

Mpumalanga 

Four hardest hit municipalities in need of urgent humanitarian aid, are Chief Albert Luthuli (250), City of Mbombela (250), Nkomazi (154) and Bushbuckridge (146).

Hlubi Ntshobane of Gift of the Givers, said the organisation assisted about 800 households with, food parcels, blankets, hygiene and detergent packs, and sleeping mats. 

Schools

The weather service forecast is now at Level 2 warnings of rains, over the eastern, northern and south-western parts of Limpopo.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education said although large volumes of water continue to flow in certain areas, posing a risk, schools will decide on when to reopen.

“Schools in Bushbuckridge Local Municipality and Ehlanzeni District are encouraged to apply their discretion guided by the realities on the ground, when deciding on the continuation or temporary suspension of teaching and learning.”

Limpopo

Educators are expected to return to work first on Monday, to assess the situation, and learners are scheduled to return on Tuesday this week.

ESwatini

The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) confirmed overflowing dams- Maguga Dam on the Komati River (100%), Mnjoli Dam on the Black Mbuluzi River (107%), Lubovane Dam on the Great Usuthu River (103.49%) and the Luphohlo and Hawane dams (101%).

Mozambique 

A presidential helicopter rescued people stranded on top of a car in Manica.

About 103 lives were lost since December due to floods and some 200,000 people displaced. 

The worst affected provinces are Gaza, Manica, Sofala, Inhambane, and Maputo.

More than 70,000 hectares of crops are submerged, increasing food insecurity.
