Rand Water has decided to reduce water to high consuming Municipalities.

The water utility has observed abnormaly high consumption levels, in Gauteng, placing significant strain on the water supply system.

Makenosi Maroo, Spokesperson of Rand Water, said “we urge all consumers to use sparingly. We strongly encourage all high consuming Municipalities to implement water saving measures, to help reduce demand and protect system stability.”

Johannesburg’s daily water consumption has hovered between 1,692 to 1,717 million litres per day (ML/d).

This far exceeds the city’s target of 1,356 ML/d.

Similarly, the City of Tshwane’s water consumption was at roughly 861-million to 897-million litres per day, since the beginning of February, outpacing the withdrawal limit of 667-million litres from Rand Water.
