Union Association of South Africa (UASA), a trade union in mining, said on Tuesday, the Mining Indaba must bring solutions to underground fatalities and injuries, as well among discussions.
The Indaba, currently underway in Cape Town, presents a platform for investors, stakeholders, employers, labour, and government to advance the sector.
Abigail Moyo, Spokesperson of UASA, said the union is pleased to participate in the influential event, which offers valuable knowledge and insights into the mining sector, a key economic driver in many countries.
While discussions will centre around mineral development, infrastructure, policy direction, illegal mining and investor confidence, Moyo said “we also look forward to the government’s address on health and safety challenges in the sector. We hope to see innovative solutions to address the ongoing challenges of underground worker fatalities and injuries in the mining sector.”
Similarly at the Alternative Mining Indaba, Oxfam is facilitating discussions on how critical mineral supply chains, can be both fair and sustainable.
Today’s discussions will shed light on governance, human rights, and fiscal systems to strengthen critical mineral supply chains, from Africa’s Lobito Corridor to Peru’s mining routes, the DRC, Zambia, and Peru.
