The Council for Geosciences confirmed some seismic activity occurred on the far West Rand, on Saturday early morning, around 3:25am.
Mbuyiseni Ngcobo, Acting Communications Manager at the Council, did not specify whether this was in fact a tremor or an earthquake.
He said the event was measured at a local magnitude of 2,4.
