Two people were injured by this weekend’s storm, while 106 homes were affected.

This is according to the OR Tambo District Municipality’s preliminary report released on Sunday.

The weather service (SAWS) placed the area at an Orange level 6 on Thursday and Friday.

All five local municipalities within the District were affected, including Ingquza Hill Local Municipality, Kumkani Mhlontlo Local Municipality, King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality, Nyandeni Local Municipality and Port St Johns Local Municipality.

There was also extensive damage to municipal road infrastructure and electricity.

The Municipality said urgent relief requirements include temporary shelter, food parcels, blankets, mattresses, hygiene packs and basic cooking necessities.
