A part of the William Moffett Expressway has collapsed, owing to heavy floods in the Nelson Mandela Bay.

The Municipality’s urged motorists to avoid unnecessary travel and be vigilant on the roads.

It also emerged at the Joint Operations Committee (JOC) on Wednesday morning, that the Rubidge Kloof towards Nieu Bethesda, is also flooded.

Volvo Trucks are flooded and closed to traffic, on the N2 north east. Motorists are urged to use the offramp to Deal Party towards John Tallant. 

The R102 between Gamtoos Mouth and Thornhill is closed due to flooding.

In addition, Reports of branches and small trees that are obstructing one lane on the N2  between Permitvlei and Dieprivier.

There are also reports of slight snowfall in Carlton heights, between Middelburg and Noupoort.

George

About 136mm of rainfall was measured at Uniondale, at 8am on Wednesday.

The George Municipality said 117mm  was measured at Waboomskraal, 73mm in Wilderness and 76mm in Witfontein.

Rains also caused a widespread outage, leading to closure of Municipal Offices and public services, such as Wilderness Tourism and MVR Blanco and Hibernia Street.

Power Outages are at Haarlem and Avontuur, as well as in Thembalethu, Zone 9 (George Municipal).

The Municipality urged motorists to proceed with caution in flooded roads, including those in the George CBD  – Courtenay Street, Knysna Road, Merriman Road, Wellington Street, Albert Street 

Uniondale – Voortrekker Street, Hospital Street, Gray Street, Cathcart Street, Rose Street, Berkley Street, St George’s Street, Lang Street.

The Meiringspoort, between Beaufort West and Oudtshoorn, remains closed due to flooding and dangerous conditions, so does the Swartberg Pass, between Prince Albert and Oudtshoorn.
