The budget for the department of water and sanitation for 2025/2026, was down by a billion to R22 billion.
Of this amount, R12,3 billion was allocated towards infrastructure grants to support 70 bulk water projects and 341 projects.
Some 175 of these projects are scheduled for completion in the current financial year.
Tabling the Department’s budget in Parliament on Friday, Pemmy Majodina, Minister of Water and Sanitation, said completed bulk water projects are the Misgund bulk water project and the Sterkspruit Water Treatment Works in the Eastern Cape, the Klipdrift Water Treatment Works in Hammanskraal, Phase 1 of the Giyani Water Project, the Babanana bulk water pipeline and phase 1 of the Mametja Sekororo scheme in Limpopo.
Phase 3 of the Maphumulo bulk water scheme in KZN, was completed, as well as the Piet Retief plant, the Eersehoek and Ekulindeni schemes in Mpumalanga.
More include the Moretele South bulk water supply scheme in the North West.
She also said the Department is implementing 18 major water infrastructure projects nationwide to secure long-term water supply, including key schemes such as the Welbedacht Pipeline Phase 2, Nwamitwa Dam, uMkhomazi Bulk Water Scheme and the Clanwilliam Dam wall raising.
About 116 core business posts were filled by engineers, scientists and technicians.
