The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality urged motorists and pedestrians to avoid the bridge at the Old Despatch Road.

The City advised motorists to use alternative routes including the R75 Highway, the R367 (Despatch – Motherwell link), the R368 / Algoa Road routes and the N2 Highway (via Coega or Motherwell interchanges).

Other roads still closed in the Eastern Cape, include the R102 between Thornhill and the Gamtoos Bridge / Ferry Hotel, due to landslides and flooding. 

Motorists are diverted to the N2.

Other roads closed since last week’s floods include the R330 (Patensie), those surrounding Aston Bay and the gravel road running alongside the Gamtoos River.

Similarly, about 24 roads are still closed in the Garden Route.

These include the TR33 in Meiringspoort, R62 Avontuur to the Eastern Cape, Oudtshoorn to Cango Caves, Uniondale Poort to town, Howkplaas Road, Warmbad (DR 1846), Hartebees River, Prince Alfred Pass, Bo-Kouga, Daskop, Kykoe, Hazenjacht, Middelplaas, Le Roux station, Van Wykskraal, Kamanassie dam, Swartberg Pass, Lategansvlei/Potgieterspoort, Doornkloof, Vlei River, Gais, Jagberg, Seweweekspoort, Baviaanskrans, Kruisvallei, Prince Alfred Pass, Gouna, Nuwedrif and Melkhoutfontein.

There are also 27 roads which were reopened in the Garden Route.
