Oscar Mabuyane, Premier of the Eastern Cape, highlighted the province’s role as a future national hub for renewable and clean energy.

Speaking at the Eskom Development Foundation (ESDEF), last week, he spoke about empowering small business (MSMEs) and Communities through skills development and future workforce readiness, youth and women empowerment, access to funding and enterprise development opportunities and leveraging research, innovation and air quality initiatives.

The two-day Business Connect Conference brought together government officials, industry leaders, stakeholders and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Industry experts shared insights on opportunities across nuclear energy, oil, gas, and petrochemicals, the Just Energy Transition impacts and Supplier and enterprise development.

Hemel-en-Aarde Valley

Eskom reported an incident of cable theft in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, on Monday morning.

About 15 spans of copper conductor were stolen.

According to Eskom’s Sector Manager, repair work scheduled to be completed by Monday, following recent floods, was delayed by the theft.

As a result, Eskom has not provided a new estimated time of restoration.

North West

Eskom said it is aware that the Thlabane community rejects the rollout of new smart meters and as a result, are planning a march.

Eskom said while it cannot tamper with the right of residents to protest, it slammed efforts to spread misinformation and rumours about smart meters.

Eskom also said meters would help eradicate load reduction.
