A hot connection between Kwaford and Matomela substations, forced  an emergency electricity shutdown, in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

The Electricity and Energy Directorate said the shutdown would only be for two and a half hours, on Sunday.

This is to prevent overheating and to allow necessary inspection, repairs and testing to be carried out safely.

Areas affected are those supplied by the Matomela Substation, including Kulati, a section of New Brighton, KwaZakhele, Seyisi, Zwide and surrounding areas.

The Municipality urged residents in affected areas to treat all electrical infrastructure as live and to remain clear of electrical equipment.
