Eskom said it would implement Stage 2 of loadshedding as from Tuesday, the 13 May 2025, from 16:00 until 22:00 on Thursday.
Eskom said the decision was taken because about 3,120MW have not returned to the system from maintenance, as expected.
In addition, a breakdown has resulted in the loss of about 1,385MW, in the past 24 hours.
Together the incidents have placed Eskom in a deficit of 13 000MW.
Dan Marokane, Group Chief Executive of Eskom, said “our new Operational Excellence Programme is key to restoring performance. We are reinforcing oversight, strengthening accountability, and aligning service providers with stricter performance standards. This forms part of our broader drive for consistent improvement through Systems, People, and Processes. We are determined to build on the progress already achieved. The delays in returning units are being addressed with urgency by senior leadership.”
