A STRONG cut-off low is expected to bring WIDESPREAD RAIN, SNOW and a SIGNIFICANT DROP IN TEMPERATURE across the Cape Provinces this weekend (12 – 15 May 2023). Freezing levels are expected to significantly drop FROM FRIDAY into this weekend spreading to Gauteng and North West by Monday.
FRIDAY: Light snow expected to start falling on Friday (12 May) over the northern high grounds Eastern Cape into Saturday.
No snow for the Karoo and Western Cape on Friday.
WEEKEND: Snow expected to fall over the Roggeveld and Nuweveld mountains of the Karoo, in the vicinity of the Swartberg mountains and the mountainous areas of the Eastern Cape and Southern Drakensberg this weekend. Ground snow possible in Sutherland overnight on Saturday and into Sunday.
MONDAY: Snow will continue fall in Lesotho on Monday.
Weather models are currently not picking up any ground snow for the Eastern Cape, but light flurries likely in the vicinity of Barkly East.
