Residents of the Cape Flats, took to social media this morning, with pictures of broken windows and rooftops to some houses, after last night’s storm.

The “Mitchell’s Plain”  mini tornado, as residents are calling it, reportedly swept through Tafelsig, Mitchell’s Plain (near Cape Town) last night.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued alerts for sever cold weather, this week.

The Severe weather and information center’s (Swaicsa) Angelo Hoorn, said a satellite image, this morning, at 07:20am, shows  a winter storm-is approaching.
“The system is currently approximately 2000 km west of SA and is expected to bring severe weather conditions to large parts of SA from Sunday morning when it is expected to make landfall.”

SAWS has issued an orange Level 6 warning for a significant cold front approaching the Northern and Western Cape, on Sunday. Gale force winds travelling at between 50 – 70 kilometers an hour are expected in both Provinces on Sunday.
