Bajabulile Swazi Tshabalala of South Africa, former Senior Vice President of the African Development Bank, is among five candidates up for the position of Group President. 

The bank’s Board of Governors, made up of finance and economy ministers or central bank governors of the Bank Group’s 81 regional and non-regional member countries, is expected to vote on Thursday, for the new Bank Group President. 

Four other candidates contesting the position are Amadou Hott (Senegal), Samuel Munzele Maimbo (Zambia), Sidi Ould Tah (Mauritania) and Mahamat Abbas Tolli (Chad).

The shortlisting of the five candidates was done by a Board of Governors Steering Committee back in February 2025.  

The winning candidate is required to obtain at least 50.01% of both the regional and non-regional votes.
