While Government is assessing the extent of the damage caused by floods, more rain is expected today between Plettenberg Bay and East London.
The floods left 10 people dead in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and 2 in East London, according to the South African Police Spokesperson, Sandra Janse van Rensburg.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued another warning for today, a level 5 against a storm between Plettenberg Bay and Buffalo City. The storm could lead to more flooding.
Thomas Cameron, Disaster Manager at the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, said a relief center was established to assist more than 2,500 people, this week.
Water disruptions as a result of the floods were mainly in Kwanobuhle, where pipelines transporting water to the communities were washed away. Joseph Tsatsire, Executive Director of Infrastructure and Engineering for the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said about 13 water tankers will temporarily provide water to the community, while his team looks for an alternative non-contact source.
