Heavy rains over the weekend, led to damage of roads and infrastructure, in parts of Limpopo.
The Lephalale Municipality, said affected areas within its area, include Ditloung, Thabo Mbeki, Mokuruanyane, Tshelammake and Ga-Sekela.
The D3110 road in Ditloung Village was closed, as a result, along with access and internal roads.
Motorists are urged to use alternative routes.
The Municipality warned residents not to attempt to cross water bodies, “floodwaters can hide deep hazards, sweep away vehicles, or carry debris, leading to life-threatening situations, even shallow water (as little as 15 cm) can float a vehicle. Do not attempt to drive or walk through flooded areas; turn around and seek higher ground instead.”
This follows a site visit by Aaron Mokgetle, the Mayor of Lephalale.
He was most concerned about the gash on the roads left by floodwaters.
Water supply in the area was negatively affected.
The pump station for the Witpoort Regional Water Scheme, which services nine villages (Kgobagodimo 1 and 2, Kopanong, Botsalanong, Segale, Tlapaleborethe, Senoela, and Mongalo villages) was severely flooded.
The main booster pumps were submerged in water.
In addition, the main line pipe on Segodi Street was damaged, resulting in interrupted water supply to the Marapong township.
Schools in the Vhembe and Mopani districts remain closed on Tuesday, as a precautionary measure.
Damages to schools were also reported in the Capricorn South and Waterberg.
