Authorities in KwaZulu are assessing the extent of the damage caused by gale force winds and heavy rains on Sunday.
Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC, said disaster management teams responded to a severe storm that struck eSikhaleni yesterday, causing damage to property and localised flooding.
The storm, toppled trees and damaged infrastructure in the City of uMhlathuze, with the most significant impact reported in eSikhaleni.
The Bhambatha Hostel’s roof was damaged, as well as in Mbatha and Dube Village.
Fallen trees reportedly fell into eSikhaleni’s public swimming Pool. They also fell on two vehicles.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 Warning for severe thunderstorms expected tomorrow, Monday, 01 December 2025, between 15h00 and 22h59.
These storms may bring heavy downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning, and hail, over the north-western parts of the province, including Abaqulusi, Alfred Duma (Indaka and Ladysmith), Dannhauser, eDumbe, eMadlangeni, Endumeni, Msinga, Newcastle, Nquthu and uPhongolo.
Residents are advised to avoid travelling on low-lying roads and bridges, stay indoors and away from windows during storms, secure pets and vehicles in sheltered areas, and move livestock to safe locations.
