Suspects entered the Beeshoek Pump Station, in the Northern Cape, on Tuesday and damaged electrical infrastructure.
They also assaulted a security officer on duty.
MG Rapudungoane, Executive Operations and Maintenance at Vaal Central Water Board, said this attack on water infrastructure is directed at communities.
“Every rand spent replacing stolen and damaged equipment, is a rand that cannot be spent on extending and improving water services, to the people of the Northern Cape and Free State.”
Despite the incident, the water board confirmed supply to affected communities of the Gamagara Region, remains stable.
