The 27th Southern Africa Regional Climate Outlook Forum (SARCOF-27) kicked off yesterday morning in Mauritius, titled “the Future of Climate and Water Across Generations of the SADC Region.”
The significance of SARCOF thus far, has been to host engagement task working groups on Disaster Risk Reduction, Agriculture and Food Security, and Water resources, Energy and Private Sector, Health and Communication and Media.
Also under discussion, was the ClimSA initiative, which contributes to efforts of SADC Member State countries to adapt to climate change and climate variability, through science-based climate prediction and information services into national and regional planning processes.
The objective is to provide timely climate information to support the Water-Energy-Food security (WEF) nexus.
Present at the meeting was Director of Infrastructure at the SADC Secretariat, Ms Mapolao Mokoena, delegates from the SADC Member States and Ms. Florence Van Houten, who is the Team Leader of the European Union Delegation in Mauritius.
