A 59-year-old suspect was arrested in Durban, after police recovered copper worth over R20 million.
The copper was recovered from scrapyard at Martin Drive in Queensburgh on Wednesday this week.

Speaking about this, Thulasizwe Buthelezi, MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in the Province, said “every year, criminal syndicates cause hundreds of millions of rands in damage to public infrastructure. These criminals sell the stolen metals to unscrupulous scrapyard dealers, severely hampering municipalities’ ability to serve their communities.”

He said community involvement in combating these crimes, is important and urged the public to work closely with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities.

“The fight against crime is a collective effort. We need the eyes and ears of our communities to help us protect our public assets” he added.
