Scientists at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Council (CSIR) forsee red flags ahead, in ocean productivity.
Dr Tommy Ryan-Keogh, principal researcher at the CSIR, is expected to provide more information on Wednesday. His presentation will delve into the ocean’s crucial role in the carbon cycle, its impact on marine ecosystems and influence on biodiversity.
This will be presented via an online webinar, planned for this Wednesday, the 12th February 2025.
He is expected to also explore the broader effects of declining ocean productivity on vital resources for human livelihoods, including fisheries, the trophic system and marine resources.
Keogh’s main research focus is on understanding variable chlorophyll fluorescence under nutrient limitation and applying this to biogeochemical cycling of the oceans.
His research at the CSIR, has a focus on understanding the seasonal cycle of phytoplankton physiology across the Southern Ocean, developing new tools and methods to examine the spatial and temporal variability of phytoplankton photophysiology for application to remote sensing data and biogeochemical model development.
