David Hodnett  is the new Chief Executive Officer of the Standard Bank of South Africa (SBSA), to take over in 2027.

SBSA is the group’s largest subsidiary, pending regulatory approval. 

Hodnett, is currently the Group’s Chief Risk Officer and Head of Corporate Affairs.

He has over 30 years of leadership experience in financial services, including senior roles at Absa and Barclays, before joining Standard Bank in 2019.

The appointment comes as Group CEO Sim Tshabalala prepares to retire at the end of 2027. 

As part of the leadership reshuffle,Thabani Ndwandwe will succeed Hodnett as Group Chief Risk Officer, while continuing as SBSA’s Chief Risk Officer. Lungisa Fuzile has been confirmed as the permanent CEO for Africa Regions and Offshore, after serving in an interim capacity.

Tshabalala said “ these appointments highlight the depth of our leadership pipeline. David has vast experience in South Africa’s financial services sector and has demonstrated exceptional leadership since joining Standard Bank. Thabani has shown exemplary oversight across risk portfolios, while Lungisa has a proven track record in managing regional operations.”
