Eastern Cape roads closed due to snowfall since Friday, are now open.
These include Penhoek Pass between Komani and Jamestown, Kraai River Pass between Lady Grey and Barkly East.
Xolile Nqatha, MEC of Transport in the Eastern Cape, thanked teams who worked tirelessly during the snow in the Province, on Friday.
“I wish to express my sincere appreciation to all the traffic officers and the entire security cluster for assisting our motorists during this difficult time. This demonstrates commitment, dedication, loyalty and patriotism” said Nqatha.
Organizations and meteriologists took the KZN incident, where motorists were stranded in the snow during the weekend, to advise travellers to heed warnings from the South African Weather Service (SAWS), ahead of school holidays.
Craig Lambinon, Spokesperson of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), said “with the weather conditions starting to improve, towards Summer, and with the schools vacation upon us, NSRI, Police and the emergency services, are appealing to South Africans and tourists to have a safety conscious mindset and to always be cautious in and around coastal and inland waters.
We are appealing to the public to follow SAWS forecast weather updates and adhere to SAWS weather warnings.”
