A transformer caught fire at the Wildfontein substation.

This has led to a widespread outage at the Depan, Volgestruis and Sluis Houkop, part of the Carletonville area.

Eskom said in an update, assessments of the damage as well as restoration of power, would begin once emergency teams have completely extinguished the fire.

Eskom also urged customers to treat all electrical equipment as live.
