Residents of Voëlklip and Klein River in Hermanus are urged to remain vigilant, after a fire broke out near the area on Saturday.

The Overstrand Municipality said the fire is burning with high intensity and is out of control.

The fire is burning along 17th Avenue in Voëlklip towards the sea/lagoon.

The Klein River Lagoon Park is on high alert.

The Municipality also said the R43 / Seventh Street Voëlklip may be closed due to visibility issues.

Aerial support for first light has been requested from Provincial Disaster Management Centre (PDMC).

Dr Annelie Rabie, Mayor of Overstrand, said on Sunday morning  “residents are also requested not to fly drones during this time, and to listen to law enforcement warning against driving on 17th avenue.”

2 Eskom poles were burnt down by the fire.
