Firefighters are using all resources at their disposal, to quell fires along the Letaba Region.
The Letaba Fire Protection Association (FPA) said reports of a fire near the top of Georges Valley, came in at around 14:28, on Thursday.
Soon thereafter, multiple local firefighting and large forestry teams responded, using aerial support, from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE).
The FPA said high winds were a major challenge in efforts to extinguish the fire.
But just after 6pm, the fire was contained and mop up is well underway, by ground teams.
“A huge thank you to Department of Forestry Fisheries and Environment, to Ferdinand van Loggenberg the IC and to all the fire fighters on the ground for all your efforts in helping the community and landowners involved” the FPA said on its various platforms.
But a fire raging out of control since 10am on Thursday is at Gladstone.
Landowners sent by the Letaba FPA to investigate the fire, confirmed its spreading.
Both the Letaba FPA skid unit, fire team and Mopani Fire Brigades are on site.
The fire has spread to neighbouring properties.
