Various churches gathered to commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Councillor Thabani Nyawose, Speaker of eThekwini, joined hundreds of congregants at the annual Good Friday service held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre.

That service was addressed by anti-apartheid activist, Professor Allan Boesak.  High-ranking government officials were also part of the event.

“This gathering reminds us that renewal begins with service. As the Gospel of Matthew teaches us, true leadership is not about being served but about serving others with humility and sacrifice” said Boesak.

Similarly thousands gathered at Rhema Bible Church, in Randburg.

Speaking at the services, Pastor Joshua McCauley, said “every other religion asks the same question — what are you doing to be good enough for God? Christianity gives a different answer entirely. Jesus is your righteousness. Not you. Not your effort. Not your track record. To the believer the Holy Spirit is not assigned to put you back under the law because He witnessed it being fulfilled. He is assigned to reveal to you just how forgiven you are — because when you live in that revelation, you live from it. You remember your sin. God does not. That is not too good to be true. That is the gospel.

Paul Mashatile, Deputy President attended the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG)’s Amandla Ngawethu Good Friday Service held at Ellis Park Stadium, in Johannesburg.

He was received by Bishop Marcelo Pires, Head of the UCKG and Faith Mazibuko – Gauteng MEC for Health.

Panyaza Lesufi, Premier of Gauteng, joined the 3C Church in Tshwane for the Easter Service.

Bishop Mosa Sono of the Grace Bible Church, addressed thousands gathered at the Orlando Stadium, under the theme “the speaking blood.”

Traffic piled up to Moria, Zion Christian Church [ZCC] in Limpopo, on Thursday, ahead of that church’s Easter pilgrimage.

The Central Methodist Church shared

7 statements Jesus made whilst on the cross.

Other politicians shared messages of peace, such as Annie and Retief Odendaal- “we wish you and your family a blessed Easter. May your day and weekend be filled with love, peace and happiness.”

Even outside SA, William Ruto, President of Kenya, said “to every family, may the spirit of Easter bring joy and peace,”says in his Easter Message.

To our beloved nation, Kenya, may the spirit of East bring strength of unity and love. Mungu abariki familia zenu, Mungu abariki Kenya. Happy Easter.”

But there was a heated debate online about King Charles of the UK, who gave an official Ramadan message from the palace during Lent, but failed to issue an Easter message, this year.

Messages circulating on social media also insinuate ISIS called for the burning of churches in the United States and Europe, but there is no evidence of such a call.
