Both the Penhoek pass on the N6 between Jamestown & Komani, as well as the Barkly pass on the R58 between Elliot & Barkly East, are closed due to snow.

The Department of Transport in the Eastern Cape, has advised motorists to rather postpone their trips until further notice.

This is despite traffic officers, stationed at both sides of the mountain passes, to direct motorists.

Elsewhere in KwaZulu-Natal, the Umtshezi Fire Protection Association, urged residents, to rather stay off the roads and avoid any unesssary travel, due to snowfall in the Midlands.

The Fire Association said emergency services are stretched.
