The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an Orange Level 6 Warning against disruptive snow, over the north-eastern parts of the Free State, extreme south-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the extreme north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) said this could easily lead to losses of vulnerable livestock and crops, non-major passes being closed temporarily and some traffic disruptions expected over the southern and eastern parts of the Free State, the northern interior of the Eastern Cape, the western and south-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the southern Highveld of Mpumalanga.

There is also a Yellow Level 2 Warning against disruptive rain, which might lead to localised flooding of susceptible formal and informal settlements and roads, as well as difficult driving conditions is expected over parts of KwaZulu-Natal except the extreme north-eastern and southern parts.

Strong winds expected, over the western interior of the Northern Cape, might pose a challenge for high-sided vehicles.

City Power cautioned residents  of Alexandra, against unplanned outages and delayed responses, as a result of inclement weather.

“Please take note that the possibility of inclement weather conditions could affect our response time to outages. As a result, repairs and restorations may be delayed.”

In an update, the local power utility said it is in know of unplanned power disruptions  in Alexandra, from the 1st Avenue to the 10th Avenue, between Vincent Tshabalala Road and Richard Baloyi Road.
