A new substation was launched in Eldorado Park on Tuesday.
Speaking at the launch event in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg’s new Mayor, Dada Morero, said the substation is a significant investment in the future of energy provision, enhancing the ability to deliver consistent and reliable power to customers.
Morero said the City is committed to provide reliable electricity for all. However, excessive consumption driven by illegal connections and meter bypassing, continues to affect customers served by the new Eldorado Substation.
He said the station has arrived after years of dedication and hard work, to meet the growing demand.
He also said some of the benefits of the new facility, are new and reliable equipment, reduced outage durations, increased power availability factor, increased safety on personnel operating the equipment and increased switching flexibility.
Residents who will benefit are in Eldorado Park, Nancefield and Klipspruit, business in the area and essential services such as the Bushkoppies Water Treatment Plant.
The construction of the new Eldorado Park Substation commenced in March 2015 to refurbish and upgrade the existing 3x45MVA 88/11kV substation to a 4x45MVA 88/11kV.
