Eskom said loadshedding remains suspended. Here are some interesting figures and facts about our current electricity situation.

From March 07 to March 13, 2025, unplanned outages increased by 589 Megawatts (MW) to 14 832MW, compared to the same period last year.

The Unplanned Capacity Loss Factor (UCLF) for the financial year-to-date improved by ~6.6%, an equivalent of 25.85%, from last year’s 32.42%.

The year-to-date Planned Capacity Loss Factor is 12.61%, approximately 1% higher than the 11.94% recorded during the same period last year.
Eskom said this is an indication of an increase in planned maintenance activities.

This week’s Energy Availability Factor (EAF), which is an indication of available generation capacity, increased by 6,3% compared to last year’s 57.0% at the start of the financial year to 58.42% from March 10 and 13, 2025. 

Year-to-date diesel savings have reached R16.76 billion, with actual spend at 52.9% less, than the R31.69 billion spent during the same period last year.

Another 4, 740MW is expected to return to service before the evening peak on Monday, 10 March2025.
