No major damage was reported in the Caribbean, following a major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6, in the Caribbean Sea on Saturday evening.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was about 129 miles southwest of George Town, Cayman Islands.

The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center issued an advisory of a looming Tsunami, for Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the British Virgin Islands, but later cancelled it.

The United Nations Risk Reduction and Reconstruction Fund said via social media platforms, this earthquake serves as a reminder of the growing risks posed by natural disasters and the need for proactive disaster preparedness, resilient infrastructure, and rapid response mechanisms.
