The OR Tambo Municipality said it is deeply disturbed and appalled by a recent incident, where unknown men, threatened a volunteer of Gift of the Givers.
The incident happened on Saturday, when the volunteer was busy providing water to victims of last week’s floods, who are housed at a temporary facility.
“We wish to state without fear, that extortion is a crime, and a moral betrayal of the highest order, especially when directed at those extending a hand to the helpless.”
The Municipality also said pumps are arriving from repairers, leaving certain parts of uMthatha with limited water supply.
Areas affected are Ilanga Ridge, Mthatha West and Ukhozi Street.
Water was restored to Sidwadwa View, Zimbane, Ngangelizwe, Waterfall Park, Mbuqe Extension, Bhongweni and Lilitha as well as Mthatha West.
