Rand Water has urged communities not to temper with highly pressurised pipelines, as these may kill vandalizers.

Technicians discovered two pipe bursts on the C11 pipeline between Zwartkopjes Farm and the Mall of the South.

Upon investigation, they discovered air valves at those locations had been vandalized, while the pipeline was in isolation during the maintenance work at the Zwartkopjes Booster Pumping Station, between 30 June and 02 July 2025.

As a result of the internal pressure during recharging, both of these compromised air valves were blown off, causing a water upsurge.

The valves were subsequently repaired and the pipeline was recommissioned in the early hours of Saturday, 05 July 2025.

The impacted system, Forest Hill, is in the recovery stage following full pumping since Saturday morning.
