The Department of Infrastructure in the Western Cape has urged road users to travel cautiously during rainy weather as visibility is impaired, and roads can become slippery.

The Overstrand Municipality activated a Joint Operations Centre (JOC) on Thursday morning around 06:00 am.

The Municipality also said it is closely monitoring rainfall, with figures recorded of about 52mm in Kleinmond and Betty’s Bay, 30mm in Hermanus (Hemel-en-Aarde), and 53mm in Gansbaai (Grootbos).

Closed roads due to flooding in the Cape Winelands District, include DR1341 (Die Plaat), Bonnievale, Km0.99 – 1,10, DR1379 (Merwestraat).

Dean O’Neill, Municipal Manager at Overstrand, said flooded roads must be avoided.
