Localized flooding is expected to continue into the weekend, as another cold front is expected to land in the Cape Region on Friday evening.
Some roads in Hermanus, and a few properties in Fisherhaven and Hawston, are reportedly flooded since Thursday morning.
Roos Street in Onrus, as well as areas in Zwelihle, Mount Pleasant,Stanford and Gansbaai are also flooded.
The Overstrand Municipality said its operational teams are opening stormwater lines as needed, with assistance from the fire department, to help divert water away from houses.
This, as streams continue to flow down from the mountains in the Betty’s Bay area, posing ongoing flood risks.
The Municipality also said the level of water in the Stanford Klein River, remains the same, posing little risk to property and infrastructure.
The Cederberg Municipality urged motorists to be extra careful, when using the Algeria low water bridge.
The Municipality also said it continues to monitor the fragile bridge.
The Hemel-en-Aarde route between Caledon and Hermanus is also flooded. The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure also confirmed the temporary closure of the following roads in the Winelands and West Coast areas: DR1341 (Die Plaat), Bonnievale, Km0.99 – 1,10, DR1379 (Merwestraat), MR546 (Matzikama Municipality), Lutzville, due to overtopping of low-water bridge.
Cape Nature has closed some of its overnight hiking hiking, due to inclement weather, including the Cederberg Wilderness, Groot Winterhoek, and Kogelberg (from 3 – 6 July 2025), Hottentots Holland (from 4 – 6 July 2025) and Limietberg (from 3 – 7 July 2025).
