The Government welcomed the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) decision to host next year’s World Economic Forum (WEF) Summit, in South Africa.

Hosting the WEF Africa Summit is expected to boost the country’s tourism sector, support economic growth, and create opportunities for job creation across hospitality, transport, logistics and related value chains.

Nomonde Mnukwa, Acting Spokesperson of the Government, said “the WEF Africa Summit last took place more than seven years ago in Cape Town. Its return to South Africa provides a strategic platform to advance continental cooperation, promote inclusive growth, and highlight progress on key reforms.”

Several discussions took centre stage at this year’s WEF, in Davos, including global value chains entering an era of structural volatility.

A report developed in collaboration with Kearney, found that nearly three in four business leaders now prioritize resilience investments, with 74% viewing resilience as a driver of growth.

“Volatility is no longer a temporary disruption; it is a structural condition, leaders must plan for,” said Kiva Allgood, Managing Director, World Economic Forum.

It also emerged some 850 million people globally, will be equipped with fresh skills, falling short of the 1 billion target.

Dubbed “the reskilling revolution” the global labour market is shaped by artificial intelligence, geo-economic shifts and the energy transition.
