PROFISHBLUE is a collaborative effort by the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), to address inadequate fish and fisheries production in the Region.
Dr Hastings Zidana, Director of Fisheries for Malawi, said fish contributes 4% of Malawi’s Gross Development Product (GDP), and makes up 30% of protein consumed in that country.
In addition to growing the GDP, Technical Advisor for Fisheries at SADC Secretariat and Project Manager, Dr Motseki Hlatshwayo, said PROFISHBLUE, will improve the governance of fisheries and the blue economy trade corridors.
