About R20,3 million of movable and immovable properties, belonging to Transnet, are on ice, following a preservation order from the Special Tribunal.

Assets  include luxury cars and high-value properties.

The SIU said in a statement, this action is part of an ongoing investigation into three allegedly irregular contracts for property valuation services with Transnet SOC Limited.

The suspicious contracts, awarded in 2019, 2021, and 2022, have a combined value of R89 million.

The order interdicts Humphrey Tshepo Moyo, Neo Matlala and any other party, from MM Real Estate (Pty) Ltd, from selling, disposing, leasing, transferring, encumbering (including by granting rights of retention), transferring, donating, or dealing in any manner whatsoever to the frozen properties, pending the finalisation of civil proceedings.

The SIU also said it is within its jurisdiction, to correct any wrongdoing uncovered during investigations caused by corruption, fraud, or maladministration. This is in line with the Special Investigating Units and Special Tribunals Act 74 of 1996.
