A 43 -year old man was arrested for being in possession of a large consignment of Khat plants.
The man was found with 30 boxes stuffed with Khat plants, of an estimated street value of R210,000, concealed in his van.
He was arrested by a Vala Umgodi team, on Thursday, 5 June 2025, at approximately 18:20, whilst travelling from Gauteng to Cape Town.
The police said in a statement, the vehicle was stopped by a Tactical Response Team (TRT) on the N1 Highway near Kroonstad.
Khat plants produce Bushman’s tea, in South Africa. They are endemic to the Eastern and South Eastern parts of Africa.
The man is expected to appear at the Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court soon.
