The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has upgraded the warning against snowfall in South Western KwaZulu-Natal, to Level 8.
This affects areas in Harry Gwala, Umgungundlovu and Uthukela Districts.
Dr Angelo Hoorn of the Severe Weather and Information Center, alerted his followers to this alert.
All mountain passes are closed, with Provincial COGTA, advising motorists, to avoid travelling on affected roads.
Widespread roads and railway lines are temporarily affected, locking out some communities.
Main Roads temporarily closed, due to snow, are the R74 (Harrismith to Bergville), R74 (Greytown/ Colenso Road), N3 (Harrismith to Tugela Toll), R617 (Kokstad to Underberg), N2 (Ingeli), M3 (Mooi River), R103, N3 (Midmar/ Howick).
Some motorists took to social media to share their experience of being stranded overnight on the main roads leading to KZN, due to snow.
