Eskom’s media practioner has clarified why some areas in the South of Johannesburg are in the dark today.
“We are attending to supply interruptions in  Dlamini, Jabavu, Meadowlands Zones 4, 7, 8 & 9, Molapo, Pimville Zones 4 & 5 and Senaoane. The estimated time of restoration is not available at this stage. It is also important to note that the outage affecting Meadowlands is not due to the fire at Zola substation.”

A fire at the Zola substation has affected electricity supply to Dobsonville, Emdeni, Jabulani, Moletsane, Mofolo North, Naledi, Tladi, Zola and Zondi.

Eskom said this morning, it is working with the fire department to extinguish the fire so that  technicians could at least start conducting an investigation.

The estimated time of restoration is also not known at this stage.

This morning, Eskom singled out theft of electricity infrastructure, as a major contributor to the rise of network overloading.
