A train driver was killed, when two trains collided near Bedford, on Thursday afternoon, around 17:12 British time.

The trains collided at East Midlands close to Elstow.

About 90 people were injured and 80 sent to the University Hospital.

Lucy D’Orsi, Chief Constable of the British Transport Police said on Saturday, 28 people remain in hospital and 9 are in intensive care.

She also said specialist investigators from British Transport Police are working with colleagues at the Rail Accident Investigation Branch to gather the facts and determine what happened. 

“They are extremely experienced and I would ask that we all refrain from speculation” she said.
