Dr. Zamani Saul, Premier of the Northern Cape, met up with Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, the Minister of Electricity and Energy, on Thursday.

The meeting discussed a R2.2 trillion investment linked to the implementation of the integrated energy plan (IRP2025), unveiled by Ramokgopa this week, which is the largest infrastructure programme in South Africa’s democratic history.

The meeting agreed on a number of projects for that province, aimed at creating jobs, to be  announced soon.

Over half of South Africa’s total large scale renewable energy projects are in the Northern Cape, bringing the number to 59 of 112, secured via the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (2021).

But there is limited space on the grid, available for new projects in the Cape provinces, including the Northern, Eastern and Western.
