A low pressure system is forecast over the southwestern Caribbean Sea, over the next days.

The system is expected to bring along a tropical depression, expected to develop over the weekend or early next week while the system drifts generally northward or northwestward over the central or western Caribbean Sea.

The Global Bank Disaster Risk Reduction and Reconstruction Fund, said the system has a near zero chance of formation in the next 48 hours and a medium (50 percent) chance of formation in the next 7 days.

The system will likely affect Haiti, the Dominican Republic or Puerto Rico, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami Florida.

The Caribbean Weather Centre said “as the instability increases across the Caribbean and we see more activity developing closer to the region, we are watching these developments closely as by Thursday night or Friday morning, the activity could also reach parts of the local islands. By then, some showers and thunderstorms will be possible and significant precipitation is not ruled out. We will follow this closely and inform you.”
