Mayor Cilliers Brink, summarized the City of Tshwane’s energy plan to curb loadshedding yesterday.
Speaking to media at the Rooiwal Power Station yesterday, Brink said an intra-departmental energy task team was appointed within the City to find solutions to loadshedding.
Procuring and generating at least 1000 MW in the next 3 years, is underway, he said. The City currently uses about 2,600 MW.
Brink also said the configuration of the network is also part of the plan, so is updating the rooftop solar policy.
Disaster management plans are also under preparation should the grid collapse.
Brink said an Energy Indaba is being planned with a focus on power stations such as the one in Rooiwal.
In May 2021, the Municipality was reportedly bankrupt and in March this year, Brink vowed to media, he would restore the City’s finances.
