Bridges and roads were temporarily closed by the Department of Roads and Public Works in the Northern Cape, on Friday, following heavy rains.

The John Taolo Gaetsewe (formerly known as Kgalagadi) or the JTG District’s roads were badly affected on Friday.

On Thursday, the N14 between Kuruman and Vryburg, had to be closed, along with other roads in the Frances Baard and Pixley ka Seme districts, due to extremely hazardous and life-threatening conditions. 

On Friday, the Department announced the closure of nine flooded bridges, including Metswetsaneng Bridge (DR3475), Ellendale Bridge (DR3475), Cardington (MR0948), Tsineng (MR0946), Dithakong Bridge (MR0947), Ditshipeng Bridge (MR0948), Bothithong to Dithakong (MR0952), Ditshipeng Bridge (MR0948) and Sisibalang – warning signage currently in place (road not yet closed).

Roads currently closed are the Heiso Road (MR0947), Stillrus to Damros Road (DR03479), Bothetheletsa Road (DR0349) and the Boithithong to Dithakong Road (MR0952). 

The Department called upon motorists to heed to warnings and signs of road closures, and not to attempt to remove them.
