One more shutdown of about 10 days without water, is required, in the ongoing Sundays River Canal repairs.

This emerged at a media briefing, to discuss progress of the Sunday River tie-in.

Buyelwa Mafaya, MMC for Infrastructure and Engineering, said the shutdown could lead to potential water outages but the teams will take all necessary precautions to ensure limited disruptions for residents.

Mafaya also said the shutdown is scheduled to take place from 09-13 May.

Areas to be affected by the shutdown are those supplied by the Nooitgedagt Supply, including Motherwell / Wells Estate / Bluewater Bay, Parts of Chatty, Kariega & Despatch, the Western Supply- Bloemandal, Chatty, Bethelsdorp and Despatch / Reservoir Hills.

The City has arranged Coegakop Water treatment works to supply the industrial area-Coega SEZ.

The City also said the Department of Water and Sanitation will allow it to extract more water than the regular supply, during this period as Kouga/Loerie/Churchill and Impofu will supply the rest of the Metro.

In addition, water trucks will be availed to affected communities.

Also at the conference, was Joseph Tsatsire, Acting Senior Director, Water and Sanitation, and Chandré Barnard, the Deputy Director for Bulk Water and Pipelines.
