10 million trees will be planted on Heritage Day.

Bernice Swarts, Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DAFFE), officially launched the Presidential One Billion Trees Programme at SANBI in Tshwane, on Monday.

The programme aims to drive collective action in the fight against climate change.

“We are mobilising all South Africans from every sector, to plant trees and build a greener, more sustainable future” said Swartz.

She also emphasised that climate change is no longer distant.

“It is here, calling for urgent collective action to protect communities and restore nature” she said.

She thanked donors and partners for their generosity and commitment to putting the country and the environment first.
