160 rhino were rewilded within South Africa, in the last year.

African Parks said in a statement marking a year since the inception of the project, rhinos were moved to Munywana Conservancy and to member reserves of the Greater Kruger Environmental Protection Foundation GKEPF  and more moves are scheduled for the upcoming months.

The Rhino Rewild plans to rescue and rewild 2,000 southern white rhino over the next decade.
The project has purchased the world’s largest captive rhino breeding operation, which held approximately 13% of the total remaining population of southern white rhino.

The benefits of rewilding these rhino during the most critical decade for conservation will be immense.

Initial funders of Rhino Rewild include the Rob Walton Foundation, the Pershing Square Foundation and WeWild Africa,  the GKEPF, Munywana Conservancy, andBeyond Travel, Zuka Private Game Reserve and Conservation Solutions.
